The Platform

NetFlix Best Horror Movies

IMDB: 7.0/10

Rotten Tomatoes: 79%

Google: 78%

Release Date: 8 November 2019

Cast: Iván Massagué, Antonia San Juan, Zorion Eguileor, Emilio Buale

About The Movie: The Platform ( El Hoyo), the Netflix-trending, a premise-rich thriller from Spain. This is an engaging, intense, and sometimes violent film that you won’t see again. The Platform shares some similarities with Snowpiercer. This was also a high-concept thriller on class warfare. Galder Gaztelu Urrutia’s feature-length debut is a great one. He takes David Desola’s screenplay and makes it a tight, taut experience.

It looks terrific and features Ivan Massague’s immersive performance. He transforms both physically and emotionally throughout the movie’s 90 minutes. Similar to Massague, The Platform cuts and wears you down to the bone. It is both exhilarating and exhausting. This, unfortunately, leaves you empty-handed by its disappointing conclusion.

The third act is less grand than the first two. However, it is still a well-executed product. The relentless stumble towards the finish line might have been worthwhile if it was worth it. However, the metaphorical message Massage & Desola conveys doesn’t lead to a satisfying conclusion. The Platform may be great, but its ending isn’t perfect.

This movie is a beautiful experiment, a fantastic director’s debut, but it only makes for a very average final product. It’s worth seeing, but nothing to rave about.
